Math Project Due 12/14/2009
Draw or construct a Christmas Themed picture using Geometric Shapes.
You must use seven basic shapes: Circle, Square, Triangle, Rectangle, Pentagon, Hexagon, and some other polygon. You must measure these shapes. For each shape you must report side lengths (radius), perimeter (circumference), and area. Put a small star in the bottom right corner of the shape so that I know which ones you measured. Please measure in centimeters. You may use a shape more than once, but you only have to measure one of each
You may use poster boards, construction paper, or just computer paper for this project. The pictures may be hand drawn or cut out of some other material and glued on. Please do not print something off of the computer. I want this to be your creation. Be creative and original. You may decorate the project with string, glitter, confetti, or anything else you can think of to boost your creativity score. Measurements and calculations must either be on the back or on the side. Please do not write this stuff on the picture.
** Hint... A polygon can be divided into triangles using the center as the vertex of each isoceles triangle. Find the area of each triangle and then add them together to get the total area of the polygon. A regular polygon (one where all the sides and angles are equal) you can find the area of one triangle and then multiply it by the number of sides.
